Jowi Schmitz (1972) is a writer and cultural journalist. She studied Cultural Studies at the University of Amsterdam, and as a journalist, she wrote theatre reviews for NRC. In 2004, Schmitz received a prestigious grant with which she obtained a fellowship at Columbia University in New York. She used her time on the subway and in several Starbucks to write her debut novel Leopold (2005). In 2011 she wrote a highly successful young-adult book of which the German translation Olivia. Manchmal kommt das Glück von ganz allein (Hanser Verlag) has received the LUCHS Preis in January 2013. In 2014 we published her personal story of the premature birth of her son Milo.
