Hans Croiset (Amsterdam, 1935) started his second career as a writer at seventy-five years of age with his memoir Bathhouse Road. His first novel, Lucifer in Berlin, was published by Schöffling in Germany, followed by his novel Spring in Prague. Croiset was a stage actor from the age of seventeen and was awarded multiple times. As a director, he brought twelve pieces of Vondel on stage, through which he learned to know the work from the inside out.
