Bernhard Schlink

Bernhard Schlink (Bielefeld, 1944) is a professor Emeritus in Law at the Humboldt University in Berlin. He got worldwide recognition with his novel The Reader, the first foreign book to hold on to the number one spot on The New York Times bestsellers list for a long time. The movie by Stephen Daldry features Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes. It was awarded an Oscar and a Golden Globe.

When Bernhard Schlink was named Peace Philosopher by the Justice Palace in The Hague, he co-wrote the essay Objective Law and Subjective Judges with the Dutch Supreme Court president Geert Corstens.
